How To Put Up A Garden Fence

Fence

I can still remember back to my first year I started gardening. I can remember putting so much passion into my little garden. I was so proud of it and couldn't wait to harvest my organic food. And then one morning I went out to tend to my garden and ALL of my garden had been nibbled on or eaten by some little pest! Oh how disappointed I was. As a tear rolled down my face, I knew at that moment that I would always put a fence up to keep those pesky critters out!

So today, I am going to show you how I have always put up a fence for my garden. It is portable (you can take it down from year to year) and it shouldn't cost you anymore then $50 (or much less depending on the size of your garden)! You can see the size of my garden and I spent around $50 on mine. It will take you under an hour to put up and the only tools you will need is a hammer! Now that is what I call easy!

Here is what you will need. You will need some 3′ u post (fence post) found at any local home improvement center. You will need to have one every 4-6 feet. You will also need some garden fencing that can also be found at the local home improvement store. I use 28″ x 50′ vinyl coated garden fencing. I like to use green because it blends in nicely with the grass. This fencing will last you for years. You will also need a hammer to hammer in your post.

What You Will Need

The first thing you want to do is hammer in a post every 4-6 feet around the entire perimeter of your garden. Make sure that the side with the hooks are on the outside of your garden.

Hammer Stakes In

Next you want to unroll your garden fencing and attach it to the hooks. It is ok if all of them are not attached to the fencing, just be sure to have the fencing attached to at least 2-3 of the hooks on the post.

Hook Wire Fencing To Stakes

Continue to attach your garden fencing to the hooks of the post around the entire perimeter of your garden, leaving no spaces open for little critters to sneak into.  That is it!  How simple was that?  Making your own inexpensive fence for your garden really is easy and affordable.  Now you don't have to worry about those pesky critters eating all your wonderful produce!  Happy Gardening!
